About Us

Anna University was established on 4th September, 1978 as a unitary type of University. This University was named after the Late Dr.C.N.Annadurai, former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. It offers higher education in Engineering, Technology, Architecture and Applied Sciences relevant to the current and projected needs of the society. Besides promoting research and disseminating knowledge gained therefrom, it fosters cooperation between the academic and industrial communities.

Anna University was formed by bringing together and integrating four well-known technical institutions in the city of Madras (now Chennai) namely,

 College of Engineering (CEG) (Established in 1794) 

 Alagappa College of Technology (ACT) (Established in 1944)

 Madras Institute of Technology (MIT) (Established in 1949)

 School of Architecture & Planning (SAP) (Established in 1957)



Centre for Alumni Relations and Corporate Affairs


The University created a centre known as “Centre for Alumni Relations and Corporate Affairs” (CARCA) to connect, interact and coordinate with the alumni of our four institutions and to carry out the following activities.


 To facilitate the interaction of Alumni with their institution and students to help them in their career advancement, explore new career paths, participate in research and internships, and gain the skills necessary to succeed. Such a community of students, alumni, and employers facilitates meaningful connections, fosters relationships, and provides comprehensive career development by bridging career services and alumni networks.

 To involve Alumni in voluntary programs like mentoring students in their areas of their expertise.

 To involve alumni for the improvement of the curriculum based on the current need.

 To provide scholarships for deserving students.

 To arrange alumni meets and reunions among chapters and have a long-lasting association based on trust and kinship extending beyond boundaries to benefit students and the Alma Mater.

 To create corpus fund under various projects for the development of the four Institutions, Departments and the University.
